Thyroid Health
Did you know that supporting the health of your thyroid gland may impact favourably on how you feel? The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped organ in the neck that produces thyroid hormones that then travel to the cells in the body. A primary role is the regulation of our metabolism, not just in relation to weight management but also controlling the rate at which our body burns food as fuel.
Recognise any of these?
- Difficulty waking in the morning and/or disrupted sleep patterns
- Need for more sleep
- General fatigue
- Cold hands and/or feet
- Depression
- Weight gain
- Thinning hair
- Hoarse voice
- Loss of outer third of the outer third of the eyebrow
These symptoms may indicate that your thyroid is functioning under par –referred to as hypothyroidism.
A Holistic Approach
Many of my clients report visiting their GP to find that test results reveal ‘normal’ levels yet they still experience many of the symptoms listed above. It is possible that the thyroid functions just short of the medical parameters of hypothyroidism hence yielding a ‘normal’ test result. It is also a consideration that whilst the test results show optimal levels of the thyroid hormones, it may not be using them in the correct way. Alternative testing is available to help provide a more comprehensive and ‘full’ thyroid screen to show exactly what is being produced and how it is being used or not used as the case may be.
