Singing & Music For Health

The physiological benefits of singing and music have long been explored. Research shows that music helps to exercise the brain as well as body, but singing is particularly beneficial for improving breathing, posture and muscle tension. There is also increasing evidence that singing regularly as part of a group is good for your general health and wellbeing.

With a history immersed in theatre and music, I have been working as a vocal coach and teaching singing alongside my holistic therapies, for many years now and am pleased to also be able to incorporate singing & music workshops as part of music therapy at the Retreat Centre in Wales.

(You do not need any prior musical experience or training; you will get just as much out of the weekend as would a trained musician!)

  • All styles including Pop & Contemporary, Jazz, Blues & Musical Theatre
  • Performance & Microphone Technique
  • Audition / Repertoire Preparation

The format and structure of singing lessons may vary depending on the aims of each student. Each session will commence with a warm up followed by a series of exercises to work on addressing particular areas such as breath control, tone, pitch, vibrato and interpretation of style.

These techniques are then practically applied as we work through your choice of song/music. I encourage the use of backing tracks which enables students to continue their practice at home whilst giving me the opportunity to fully assess the ‘voice in action’ during the lesson, in particular addressing issues such as posture, areas of tension in the body and the quality of the voice.
